Estimated length:

3 years

Components

Gathering of resources to support clubs as they include players in various age groups and those who are: paraplegic, those needing prosthetics, deaf, visually impaired, intellectually disabled, those suffering from neurological diseases, veterans etc. Working with the PAA inclusivity committee.

Initiatives (2024)

  • contact the PAA inclusion committee to inform them of our plan and provide advanced notice of the assistance we will need from them
  • set up a sub committee to work on this
  • start planning a budget and start-up plan to integrate these players into clubs
  • Locate contacts in sporting organisations that link to these groups of potential players
  • Introduce ourselves to these organisations and determine if they are interested in creating pathways for their members to play pickleball and what we could do to provide pickleball for them
  • Determine which groups of potential players we can include initially with plans for expansion over the years
  • Investigate processes to involve carers and/or other family members in the play
  • determine what physical (ramps/lifts, disabled toilets, disabled parking, level entrances between rooms – which we would need to include and which venues would be required to include), social (inform the club members of who is being added to the playing mix and how they will impact on the current situation) and emotional needs we would be required to provide if these players were to be effectively included
  • investigate if rules need to be altered and work with PAA and international bodies to have them adopted worldwide
  • work with coaches to determine if they need training to work with these players
  • prepare a plan to work with referees on what is required to play in tournaments and any rule changes
  • find clubs who are interested in trial and provide assistance to prepare them for playing sessions
  • if costs are going to be involved, finding sponsors and/or seeking donations
  • start the creation of resources for clubs

Financial implications: $1000
